LinnStrument

LinnStrument in the browser

Three pages that talk to a LinnStrument over MIDI, straight from Chrome, Edge or Firefox, with nothing to install. Plug the instrument in, open a page, pick its ports at the top right.

LinnStrument is the expressive MIDI controller made by Roger Linn Design. These pages live in the instrument's open source firmware repository and are maintained by Geert Bevin, who co-wrote that firmware; they grew out of that work rather than being a Roger Linn Design release, so questions about them belong in the repository. They use the instrument's own MIDI interface, change nothing on it beyond the settings and lights you ask for, and send nothing anywhere but to the ports you choose. They work with firmware 2.3.4, the current release. The next one, 2.4.0, adds model detection, faster lighting and text; until then the connection panel says what waits for it.

Designer

Draw a MIDI controller on the surface: pads, keys, faders, XY pads and buttons, each sending what you choose to any DAW or synth. Switch Run on and the lights show the layout and its state, and the control switches jump between layouts while you play.

Settings

Every setting the instrument exposes over MIDI, as a form with the two splits side by side. A change is sent at once and read back, so the form always shows what the instrument kept.

User firmware

A live view of User Firmware Mode, the raw touch surface: every touch with its pressure and position, lights to paint, text to draw or scroll (with firmware 2.4.0), for building your own ideas on.

What it needs. A browser with Web MIDI: Chrome, Edge or Firefox. Safari does not offer it. The browser asks whether the page may use MIDI, once for a hosted site and on every visit for a page opened from a file; allow it. The pages keep nothing but your saved layouts, in the browser itself.
